(The Sanskrit word for Thousand-Armed Kannon Bodhisattva, Sahasrabja, means ``one with a thousand arms.'' In response to a petition to save all sentient beings, he became a figure with a thousand hands and eyes of wisdom in his palms.) He is a bodhisattva of compassion.)
